JE Rhodes Has a CEI Lab
Creative Educational Institute (CEI) teams up with technology to provide us with a new and exciting tool to help our students learn. It is called Essential Learning System (ELS). This program addresses reading, handwriting, spelling, and grammar. It helps to improve expressive and receptive language skills. And… we are fortunate enough to have this program at JE Rhodes Elementary School.
In the CEI Lab we concentrate on the child’s special needs. ELS combines sight, sound, and movement to strengthen your child’s reading, language, and learning skills.
The ELS software focuses on mastery. That means the students cannot begin to learn new words without successfully completing the current ones. To help students want to do their best, the program provides positive comments and support as the students work. As a result, many students see gains in reading levels, test scores, self-esteem, and overall performance.
JE Rhodes CEI Lab is preparing for the 2007—2008 year.
Mrs. Hynes, Mrs. Hobbs, and Mrs. Love are the facilitators for the CEI Lab this year. We are busy preparing to give nationally normed tests to determine a child’s level of proficiency in many areas of reading and learning. Then we will give a placement test to establish the level at which he/she will begin lessons in the ELS program.
After this information is gathered we will train the children to work on the ELS Program. We will show them how the use the computer and how to follow the routine.
Then we will be ready to begin our lab sessions. The Lab runs so smoothly when these procedures are followed.
I am looking forward to a very successful year in our CEI Lab.
