This was a very special day on our campus. I will remember it for years to come. Not only do have family members, who have served in the military, I am honored to live in a community that appreciates and celebrated its Veterans with such dignity and respect each year. It was my pleasure to be a part of planning this event to show our appreciation to the proud men and women who have served our country with such integrity. They are such and inspiration and such an example to all of us. I am proud to remind our students to honor Veterans and keep them close to their hearts and remember that it is because of them that we have the freedoms today that we do. I felt it so appropriate that our children shared their pride by presenting the flag, leading us in songs and reciting the following poem during our gathering of over 800 Wednesday to remind us all of just a few of those freedoms of which we should be grateful for everyday, and never take for granted. So, next time you see a man or woman in uniform, just say a simple thank you, or if you don’t have the words – sign it with sign language!
Thank you, To all Veterans who have served, and are serving
We honor you, and want to say, Thank you.
Thank you, Because of your courage, I am free to play outside,
And free to be friends with whomever I choose
Thank you, Because of your Strength, I am free to attend church with my family
Thank you, Because of your Bravery, I am free to get an education
And grow up to be whoever I dream to be
Thank you, Because of your commitment, and dedication, I have a future.
You are my hero!
Thank you!
